Dr. Laoise Byrne joined WHMP in 2007 having spent a very enjoyable year here prior to her returning to Dublin. In fact, she enjoyed working with the staff and patients so much, she returned and has worked on Tuesdays and Thursdays since then.
Laoise underwent her medical training in UCD graduating in 1997. She then went on to spend a year in the hospital setting before commencing the TCD GP Training Scheme. She spent her Registrar year working in the North East which paved the way for her return to the area.
She has special interest in Womens’ Health and Sexual health, having completed Diplomas and Certificates in the areas; and is competent in insertion of the contraceptive implant. She has also completed certificates and diplomas in Travel Health, Child Health and Medicine for the Elderly.
When she is not in WHMP, Laoise is a CME Tutor in Dublin, part of the National GP CME Network (Continuing Medical Education) and is responsible for organising and running monthly small group educational meetings for local GP’s. She finds this academic post complements her clinical work in WHMP.
In her spare time, she is mum, chauffeur and general slave to 3 boys (4 if you include her husband). She enjoys the occasional run, spin, game of tennis and coffee with friends.
